Such Stuff as dreams are made on
Horn and Ivory marks my debut as a Film Producer. The film was Conceived, Written, Directed and Filmed by my husband, Vineet Yadav. A labour of love, I watched him toil over every line, every angle and every frame in the film to get it just right.
The movie, is a psychological thriller woven around the internal conflict of the protagonist as she chases success. She finds herself caught between what the ancient Greeks called, " The Gates of Horn and Ivory", basically literary images that they used to distinguish true dreams from false.
In the film, Myra an aspiring film star, dreams of making it big in Tinseltown. The movie follows her in her attempts to attain stardom and takes the viewer on a journey of tightly woven twists and turns.
Just as interesting as the movie was the making of the Movie. Initially it seemed truly uphill. Starting with a script which took years to see the light of day, and then kept getting re-written and refined over the long, enforced, covid confinements; to a long wait for the heroine, the project appeared to be almost jinxed. Almost... but not quite. Once Lady Luck decided to favour the man who had put his heart and soul into realizing this dream, things suddenly but surely started falling into place. First our heroine, Daria, a rare gem arrived. She was eager to excel, willing to put in the necessary hard work and allow the director to shape her skills to the requirements of the character that she would play. Then help arrived from all quarters. We got a state-of-the-art camera which we used to fill several gaps, the required government approvals came our way and then from out of the blue, the film crossed borders. With an international location, panoramic views of the Western Ghats and the blue brilliance of the Arabian sea, this thriller is all set to do the rounds of the international festival circuit. For my first film, this is indeed such stuff that dreams are made on.
