A Happy Co-incidence

A few days after this article was published in Jetwings, I got a call from Uday Deshpandeji. He passed the call to Mr. Gopal Sukhtankar, one of his old associates who was also cited in the same article.

Sukhtankar was very eager to connect with me and the excitement was palpable in his voice. He had an extra-ordinary story to recount. Apparently he and an young colleague at work  happened to travel by a Jet Airways flight that month and as they settled into their seats, the young colleague flipped through the magazine to the pages containing this article. At this point Sukhthankar saw the pictures of Mallakhamb and very excitedly told his colleague that this was a sport he used to practice a lot when he was younger. The colleague nodded in acknowledgement but Sukhtankar got the message that he was not being taken seriously. Anyway the pictures had gotten him interested enough to pick up a copy of the magazine himself and to his utter delight, he realized that he had been mentioned by name in the article. Not only was he able to point this out to his young colleague but also had a souvenir to carry home with him. We met in the Shree Samarth Vyayam Mandir (SSVM) a few days later and he thanked me personally for this small inclusion.
